Alsace has a strong cultural heritage, attracting the curiosity of the whole world.

Colmar is a city that is very popular with tourists from all over the world. It is nicknamed the "Capital of Alsace wines", thanks in particular to its strong involvement in viticulture. It is a culturally rich city with a considerable number of prestigious restaurants, such as the Michelin-starred Girardin restaurant. Alternatively, you can visit the Unterlinden Museum of Fine Arts, where a large number of paintings, sculptures and historical objects are on display. The city is also full of parks and public gardens, such as the Champ-de-Mars park, where you can sit back and enjoy a moment of rest and tranquillity. Colmar is also the birthplace of Auguste Bartholdi, the famous sculptor of the Statue of Liberty. A replica of the statue on a smaller scale has even been installed on a busy roundabout in the city.

The Hartmannswillerkopf, or the Vieil Armand (nicknamed by the Poilus, for the sake of pronunciation) is a place classified as a historical monument, located in the Vosges Massif, near the Domaine du Hirtz, and which has a summit standing at 957 metres high. In this place of memory, clashes took place during the First World War, between December 1914 and January 1916. It was a hotly contested summit, located between the municipalities of Wattwiller, Hartmannswiller, Soultz and Wuenheim. This was a very special place, as it was crossed by the Franco-German border line. The trenches (45 kilometres long), where the soldiers camped, can still be crossed. In addition, a monument was inaugurated in 1932 by the former President of the Republic, Albert Lebrun, consisting of an altar to the fatherland and a crypt with an 80-metre long corridor for access. You can also visit a cemetery containing the bodies of the soldiers who died valiantly in defence of France during the fighting in Haute-Alsace during the Great War, the cross at the top of the hill which includes the crypt, and the Franco-German historial.

By staying at the Domaine du Hirtz, you will be staying both in a tourist residence that takes care of its guests and in the middle of the cultural and natural wealth of Alsace.
