THE SAINT-OURS AND SKI FAIR IN THE AOSTA VALLEY

30 and 31 January 2023 typical crafts, wines and gastronomy.

Each year, a thousand exhibitors, including artists and craftsmen from the Valle d'Aosta, present their work while maintaining the artisanal character.

It is a great popular event, a hymn to the creativity and industriousness of mountain people.

A bit of history:

In the Middle Ages, the Fair was held in Aosta in the area of the Collegiate Church named after Saint Bear. Legendary accounts tell us that it all began in front of the Church when the Saint, who lived in the 9th century, took the habit of distributing clothes and "sabots", the traditional wooden shoes, to the poor, which are still on display at the Fair. Now the whole city centre is involved in the event, both inside and along the Roman walls.

Toutes les activités traditionnelles sont représentées :

Wood carving and decoration, processing of soapstone, wrought iron and leather, weaving of sheets, woollen cloth worked on old wooden looms, then lace, wicker objects, domestic objects, wooden stairs, barrels...

It is not so much the commercial aspect that pushes the exhibitors to participate in the Fair, but rather the desire to get out of the workshop to meet a public that appreciates their quality work and creativity, the fruit of traditions with centuries-old origins.

Visitors to the Fair go there to "breathe" a unique and incomparable atmosphere.

>> At the information points of the Fair you can find the menus of the restaurants that propose typical dishes of the territory.
